Cub Scout Leader Training

Pack leaders are volunteers with sons in Scouting.  All leaders must complete BSA training sessions including "New Leader Essentials", "Youth Protection Training", and  leader-specific training.  Our goal is to provide a fun and safe Scouting program for our boys and families to enjoy year-round.

Cub Scout Fast Start - online

This site introduces the fundamental concepts of the Cub Scout Program and how to run a den meeting.

Youth Protection Training - online  (training sessions also available - see below)

This training is an important component of the Boy Scouts of America’s strategy to protect its members from child abuse, and is required for all registered leaders.  Child abuse is a serious problem in American society. There are over three million reported cases of child abuse each year, including half a million reported cases of child sexual abuse. As the nation’s largest youth-serving organization, the Boy Scouts of America has a unique opportunity to make an impact on this societal problem.

Guide to Safe Scouting
The purpose of the Guide to Safe Scouting is to prepare adult leaders to conduct Scouting activities in a safe and prudent manner.  The Guide to Safe Scouting is available at the above link in two formats:  (1) divided into chapters for on-line reading, with a search engine;  and (2) as a single document for printing and reading off-line.

Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat
Before a BSA group may engage in swimming activities of any kind, a minimum of one adult leader must complete Safe Swim Defense training.  Before a BSA group may engage in an excursion, expedition, or trip on the water (canoe, raft, sailboat, motorboat, rowboat, tube, or other craft), adult leaders for such activity must complete Safety Afloat Training.  For more information, please link here.  Training is available on-line.

Philmont Training Center
Serving as the national training center for the Boy Scouts of America since 1950, the Philmont Training Center (PTC) provides a unique environment for the training of volunteer and professional leaders. Each year, more than 6,000 Scouters and family members attend PTC.  Each conference features the latest tools and techniques, audiovisuals, discussions, idea sharing, and activities led by a faculty of experienced Scouters. Invitation to these conferences is upon recommendation of the local council or a national committee.
